Why Proper Camera Maintenance is Essential?

Common sense really, Don't leave batteries in the camera for long periods, they will leak and corrode the mechanism.

Useful maintenance tips includes storing Cameras in Cool dry places, preferably with Silicia Gel Moisture sachets, this keeps them mould and dampness free.

A common fallicy experienced, If the Camera no longer winds or Jams do not fill the internals with oil hoping it will cure the problem, it doesn't, just makes it worse and more to clean. When experiency a Jamming mechanism, normally there is a mechanical reason, the camera will have to be disassembled.

Common Camera Repair Issues

By Far the most common faults on older Cameras are Rubber and Foam degradation, this falls into the mechanism causing the camera to Jam.

On many of the plastic Models from 1990 onwards the nylon or plastic drive cogs and wheels disentegrate, resulting in lack of motor drive or shutter seizure

Pentax ME-Super

These are Lovely little Film Cameras, plenty on the market, unfortunately the years haven't been kind, the foam and rubber components inside the mechanical workings of the camera"dissolve" leaving a sticky residue that Jams the camera Mechanism. But its not the end of its life these cameras are very repairable, the mirror box has to be removed and de-gunked I use cotton swabs and Lighter fluid. New foam and Rubber Parts replaced, then re-assembled , they will now work like new, for many years. High quality cast body, 96% metal Components.

Nikon FE

Excellent Manual Film Cameras, very tough, well built SLR's , biggest fault I have come across is Dead Lightmeters and Only works on M90 or B Settings. The Plastic battery compartment cracks on these and the terminal pushes against the camera body thus shorting out the power source. Mirror box has to come out, tricky part is getting it back together and lining up the 4 Points of Mechanical contacts. Other faults include jamming, normally a lever has been forced out of Position or bent.
